Most dog Moms and Dads already know that their pups make them feel happy and special, but it actually goes so much deeper than that! In fact, our canine companions actually elicit physical responses from our bodies and our minds when they’re around us – and that works the other way around, too!

The author of the book “Made For Each Other: the Biology of the Human-Animal Bond”, Meg Olmert, revealed in a video posted on Business Insider that pups and their parents have, over the years, developed a relationship best described as symbiotic. In other words, both parties benefit from the other.

Dogs who receive love and affection from their Mommies and Daddies are in turn very generous with the affection that they themselves provide to others. Meanwhile, there’s scientific proof that your pups are actually really making you feel better when you’re sad or down, or even hyping you up further on good days. This is because being around your pup actually reduces blood pressure and lowers heart rates, keeping your heartbeat steady and regulated.

On top of that, seeing your pup leads to a release of opioids, oxytocin, serotonin, and adrenaline in the brain, which are all positive hormones that help us feel better. Some, like oxytocin, are noticeably maternal hormones, which would explain why we often regard our pups as our children, albeit furry ones!
