6 Ways To Protect Your Dog From The Sun (Part 2)

5 Signs Your Dog Needs a Probiotic

It doesn’t matter what breed you have or how much hair they have, it’s wrong to underestimate the power of the sun. Dogs can experience heatstrokes, tans, and sunburns, just like humans do.

Here are some ways to protect your dogs from the sun. PS. dogs that experience hair loss require special treatment so please visit the vet and get your guideline on how to protect them from the sun. Here’s Part 1, in case you missed it.

1. Limit sunbathing

Yes much like humans, dogs love sunbathing too, but as a responsible dog parent, you need to limit your dog’s sunbathing ritual to prevent them from getting sunburns. As if that’s not enough, because dogs lay on their tummies, the harmful rays can actually increase their chances of developing tumors on their bellies.

2. Dog-friendly sun screen

Much like you need sunscreen when you leave your house on a hot summer afternoon, your dog needs sunscreen too. However, be sure to ask your vet for sunscreen recommendations and get one that’s dog-friendly. DO NOT use human sunscreen on your dogs.

3. Play indoors

Whenever possible, let your dogs play indoors to prevent them from being exposed to harmful UV rays. The sun’s rays peaks between 10 am and 2 pm so use this time to play indoors.
