Sandy was originally born in Mexico and then Maria adopted him from the San Diego border. Maria had to move back to the States and so she left Sandy behind with her parents in Scotland. Maria said, “He’s been to hell and back with me. Gave me reason to get out of bed during my darkest moments.” When it was time for Maria to go back home, she asked her family to take Sandy out for a walk so she could sneak inside and hide upstairs to surprise him!
