In our last article, we talked about the best breeds of dogs for senior citizens. Here are 5 more of the best dogs for seniors and why!
Labrador Retriever
This big dog needs a nice yard to run in, but they’re easy to take care of thanks to short fur, high trainability, and gentle behavior. They’re easy to find and love games of fetch, and they also pick up on training quickly. On top of that, they make good working dogs!
Shih Tzu
This lapdog is easy to take care of and easy to train. Their coats require either regular trims or daily brushing, but they don’t shed too much and don’t have a lot of dander. They’re smart, too, so training them isn’t difficult.
Beagle
Beagles may be hunting dogs, but they are loyal companions that don’t require a lot of grooming, too! They’re very friendly and energetic, and in a yard they’d do well; without one, they need daily walks.
Shar-Pei
These dogs are medium in size and are very easy to housetrain. Their dislike of strangers makes them fantastic watchdogs, and they are independent, so they don’t need constant attention. They also have short fur that doesn’t require too much grooming. Do note that they will need regular walks!
Pomeranian
Calm and docile, this breed is a great indoor pet. They have almost no smell, will do well in yards (but will need regular walks without that space), and are very small and therefore easy to handle and take care of. They require regular brushing, but they are very affectionate and curious, making them entertaining companions.
