Coconut oil is all the rage, but there’s a lot of debate about whether it is really helpful or not. Still, most people agree that it’s a great topical form of care. But can you use it for your dog’s fur?
Reasons
Why would you use coconut oil on your dog’s fur? Well, it can:
- Reduce bad smells
- Create a healthy, silky coat
- Reduce eczema
- Treat fungal and yeast infections
- Reduce allergic reactions
- Help with stings and bites
- Promote healing of wounds
- Aid itching and dryness
How Often?
You should use coconut oil for your dog’s fur approximately once a week, but as a rule, you should discuss this with your vet before committing to a schedule.
Use
- To apply the oil, take a little amount, rub it onto your finger.
- Then, pat the oil onto the coat of your dog, slowly running your fingers through their fur and massage it in.
- Don’t worry about your dog licking the oil; it’s safely edible in small doses.
There are a few things you can do after that. You can put the oil in and leave it on for it to be absorbed on its own, or you could rinse it off after a certain amount of time, or you could lightly rub it off with wipes or tissues.
