Find Out Why Your Dogs Constantly Bite Their Paws

It’s not unusual for a dog to lick or bite their toes now and then, but in some dogs, it becomes constant. This causes paw injuries and saliva staining. This can be caused by allergies, ticks, anxiety, wounds, and dry skin, and it can ultimately cause infections, limping, and excessive pain.

It is important to bring your dog to a vet as soon as you notice these issues, especially if the underlying cause is a very serious one. But if the licking behavior is caused by contact dermatitis or a little dry skin, there are some things you can do at home:

Wipe

Whenever your dog comes in from outside, give their paws a wipe down. They could have gotten irritants on their paws while outdoors.

Weather proof

Hot weather can cause dermatitis aggravation and cold weather can worsen dry skin. Make sure your home is protected from these extreme temperatures.

Fatty acids

Fatty acid supplements can help maintain healthy skin, among other health benefits.

Allergens

Outside allergens can infiltrate your home through shoes, clothing, and other methods. Try to limit your dog’s exposure to them – keep your house clean and wash your clothes, shoes, bedding, and other similar items.

Diet

A healthy diet can help your dog fight irritant sensitivity!
