From Cage to Comfy Couch: Rescued Laboratory Beagle Learns to Be a Dog!

Henley the beagle spent his life in a lab, undergoing experiments in the name of science. Before a new pharmaceutical, pesticide, or chemical is made available to the public, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration requires that it be rigorously tested on animals.

Because of beagles’ docile nature, they’re are commonly used for these tests.

We can’t imagine the kind of pain and suffering these beagles endure , but thankfully, Henley was saved from this life and placed in a new home.

However, his new family didn’t know how to handle his severe PTSD, so they dumped him at a shelter.

Thankfully, this is where the Beagle Freedom Project stepped in and helped find him a home that could commit to helping him more forward.

The Beagle Freedom Project says, “Many of the dogs BFP rescues from laboratories suffer severe emotional anxiety. Henley had essentially gone crazy being confined in a tiny cage for so long that he began circling.

Like the majority of the dogs we rescue Henley had PTSD which is defined as “an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened.”” Poor thing! Thankfully, his story has such a happy ending though!
