Grant Allows Meals On Wheels To Provide Pet Food, Care And Other Supplies

A pup can provide you with companionship, lessen symptoms of some mental health conditions, and combat loneliness.

But as pup parents age, it can be difficult to financially and physically provide for pups – after all, dog care is expensive!

That’s why Meals on Wheels America sent a $2,500 grant to the Council on Aging of West Florida – a gesture to initiate the financial care of clients who have pets by giving them the necessary food, supplies, and other forms of care.

The president and CEO of the council, John Clark, is excited to announce that the grant will allow for a meal-delivery program to be put into motion for the pets of their clients. According to Clark, many pup parents in the program have difficulty affording proper pet food and resort to giving them a portion of their meals – and that’s not healthy for either of them!

So far, Meals on Wheels America has granted a total of $130,000 to 193 different local programs through their Meals on Wheels Loves Pets initiative. The project is funded partially via a donation from Banfield Charitable Trust.

It is estimated that roughly 70 clients and 130 pets will receive benefits from this program, which equals to a whopping 4,060 lbs of pet food being distributed!
