In A Sad Twist Animal Rescue Reveals That People Euthanize Healthy Pups For Convenience

Animal rights activists and advocates are protesting and calling for change due to a disturbing and heartbreaking practice that has been a part of the veterinary scene for a long while.

In Canada, it is reportedly not uncommon for completely healthy dogs – and other pets – to be euthanized and sent to vets to be put down due to being an inconvenience for their families, who are supposed to be caring for them.

This somewhat shocking fact is unfortunately carried out by many veterinarians in the country. There is no law prohibiting this act. However, there are now much less veterinarians who will agree to follow through with this unfair procedure. According to Canadian Veterinary Medical Association president Dr. Troy Bourque, he is certain that there are still vets in the country who will perform the euthanasia, even though the process is meant to be an ethical procedure.

Meanwhile, Nova Scotia Veterinary Medicine Association president Dr. Frank Richardson places responsibility for these deeds on the veterinarians involved. He is of the belief that the issue should be discussed directly with pup parents who want the procedure performed by the vet in question. He also adds that fewer families of pets have requested this service over the years, so things may be looking up.
