Nala the tabby cat had just been born when she was dumped and abandoned in a quiet alley. When a neighbor heard her desperate mewls for help, she was thankfully rescued and taken to Washington’s Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service, or SCRAPS.
They then sent out a call for help for a foster home on Facebook, and Jamie Myers saw it. At the time, she was fostering a mother cat who had lost a lot of her litter, and she thought that Nala would fit right in with them. As soon as Nala arrived in her temporary home, she took to the mama cat right away and began to nurse from her, while the mama cat treated her like one of her own.
But Nala was younger than the other kittens, and she was still too little to be adopted when the mama cat and her litter were all taken away for adoption. For a while, the poor little kitten was all alone – but then an unlikely maternal figure came into the picture.
Izzy the pup had just begun being fostered by Myers, and she had puppies of her own. When she saw Nala, she picked her right up and brought Nala along with the rest of her litter. Whenever she was moved away again, Izzy would be convinced that one of her pups was gone and would take Nala right back!
Once Nala settled into the pen with Izzy, she became very happy and cheerful. She was excited to have new, if unlikely, siblings, and most importantly, she had a loving mother all over again!
Eventually, it was time for Nala to be adopted. To make sure Izzy didn’t feel pained by the loss, Myers fostered two little kitten sisters again – and now Izzy has brand new babies she’s eager to care for!
There’s so much love to be found in little Izzy’s big heart, and she’ll be caring for everyone she meets for as long as she can, no matter the species.
