Loyal Pup Watches Over Her Injured Friend Until Help Arrives

When Leslie Ysuhuaylas, with The Underdog Project, was going about her usual routine of checking for dumped pets in Dallas, Texas, she almost missed the silent and barely moving pup sitting in a blanketed crate she left out.

He was frozen, with swelling in his head and a deep gash in his leg that opened to his bone.

The pup, now named Benny, could barely move and seemed to have given up a hope. Ysuhuaylas and volunteers were able to get the pup onto a leash and carry him to car to bring him to a vet. As this happened, Ysuhuaylas noticed another pup observing them. That pup turned out to be Benny’s friend, and volunteers were able to coax this new pup, now named Betty, into the car after her friend was taken to the vet.

The efforts of these volunteers paid off. These two pups were then taken in by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Benny now stays with a foster home as his leg heals, and he’s begun to show a loving, friendly, sweet personality. The cause of the swelling in his head is still unknown. Meanwhile, Betty is still quite frightened, so rescuers are holding off bringing the two to New York to be put up for adoption until both are better.

Benny’s medical bills have amounted to nearly $2,300 for one night at the emergency vet. If you’d like to donate and help out, you can do so here. Do like and share the story of these two brave pups, and let’s hope for their speedy recovery!
