NYC Passes Law That Allows Loving Pups To Be Buried Beside Their Humans At Cemeteries

Pets are like family to most people, and when they pass away, it’s only natural to want to be buried with them – as you would with any family member. Up until now, there hasn’t been a great option for those who want to be laid to rest beside their pups; those who did desire this would be buried in a pet cemetery.

But now, the New York state has passed a new law that allows humans to be buried beside their beloved pets. It’s not limited to just pups or kits, either – any pet at all can be laid to rest alongside their Moms and Dads. This is a huge change that seems small to some, but is a big deal to many animal-lovers. This law applies to most cemeteries apart from religious cemeteries, and with individual cemeteries retaining the right to refuse to participate.

According to a pet cemetery in Westchester County, around five people per year ask to be buried in the cemetery next to their pets. Allowing humans to rest in peace next to the pets they have loved all their lives is truly a beautiful decision, especially since pets are often considered part of the family.

Pet owners around the country are now hoping that other states will soon follow in the footsteps of New York and allow for this option to be made available to the rest of the nation. For now, if you live in New York, you can make plans with a cemetery that allows this practice to be laid to rest with your pups, cats, or any other animal you have.
