Obese Puppy Starts His Weight Loss Journey With His Foster Mom!

Wolfgang the stray beagle was ridiculously obese when he wound up at a kill shelter in Arizona. No one has any idea how that happened, but the pup was 90 pounds in weight – more than 60 pounds heavier than he should be. He was absolutely huge.

Arizona Beagle Rescue was able to pull Wolfgang from that shelter, and the pup wound up in a foster home with Erin McManis and her husband Chad Schatz. The pup was happy to meet Andre and Fred, fellow foster pups, even though he couldn’t join them in a lot of play. In fact, he couldn’t do much more than lie down on his back!

A veterinarian put this little pup on a 600-calorie diet, consisting of green veggies and lean turkey meat. He also needs to take medication for a thyroid problem, and he has regular vitamin supplements, too, in order to maintain his health. His foster family also began to put him on a regular exercise routine involving walks and swimming – with assistance – in the house’s pool.

Despite his restrictive diet, Wolfgang was cheerful and happy, always showing off his bubbly personality. His temporary parents are really hoping to help him get back down to a reasonable weight before it’s too late. It’s not their first rodeo, either – Andre was 68 pounds when he first arrived in their home, and he is now a healthy 23-pound weight!

To accompany Wolfgang, McManis is doing a low-carb diet, too, so they can both work together on their weight loss progress. She records their efforts on Facebook, and she and Wolfgang are both glad to be part of this together.

Once Wolfgang has lost enough weight, he’ll be ready for adoption!
