Pets Will Get Free Rabies Vaccinations After Rabies Was Found In Norcross

In light of recent attacks by rabid animals in the area of Norcross, the Animal Welfare and Enforcement is working together with Planned Pethood, Animal Alliance of Georgia and Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation in order to provide those living in the area with free rabies vaccinations.

This is partly a result of the events of a rabid raccoon being caught near Lawrenceville in March, and three individuals who were attacked by a rabid cat in Sunset Drive, Norcross, in the middle of May.

Animal Welfare and Enforcement would, in addition, like to inform and remind residents that rabid animals may appear tame despite their conditions and would like to advice everyone to steer clear of unknown wild animals. If you are attacked by a wild animal, you should seek immediate medical attention.

On top of that, if you notice unusual behavior among animals – including foaming at the mouth, an aversion to food or water, aggressive behavior, or difficulty in movement that results in odd, stunted movement – these incidences can be reported to the Gwinnett County Police Animal Welfare and Enforcement at 770-513-5700.

So what about those free rabies shots? They will be offered on the 10th of June from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Best Friend Park, 6224 Jimmy Carter Boulevard, Norcross. If you’d like to opt for additional vaccinations, you can also avail of them here for a low cost. Please like and share to spread the word!
