Rescue Pup Feels A Lot Safer And Happier After Getting Her Very Own Toy

When Nicole Marie Wasieleski saw the sad face of a senior pup named Kairi in the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, which is where she volunteers, her plans to not adopt another pup went awry.

Kairi is a decade old and had lost her original family in a sudden manner. Wasieleski couldn’t stop thinking about her, so she decided to bring her home. But even though she was finally out of the shelter, she struggled to adapt to her new environment.

To help her feel safer, Wasieleski decided to bring Kairi to a pet store to let her pick out a toy. There were plenty of “normal” ones that Wasieleski knew most pups enjoyed, but Kairi had her heart set on an unusual choice – a funny-looking dinosaur all in pink! Wasieleski tried to direct her attention to some other toys, but Kairi knew what she wanted.

Now, the toy, named Dino, is Kairi’s best friend. She carries it around with her everywhere she goes. She plays with it and curls up for cuddles with it. She also watches over it carefully, and the other pups in the home know that they cannot and should not destroy it!

Dino has really helped Kairi with her separation anxiety. She would be destructive when her Mom and Dad were gone – chewing carpets, scratching at her kennel, and more. But then, with proper crate training and Dino’s company, she was completely calm in her crate.

Kairi is now doing much better. She has lots of energy and keeps up easily with the two-year-old pup siblings she has, and she enjoys cuddling with Mom or Dad, as long as Dino’s with her!

To make sure she always feels safe, an additional, identical Dino has been purchased for Kairi, just in case, the first one needs to be replaced!
