It’s often difficult for senior dogs to find a new home, but Rocky, a 17-year-old pup, would not stop running away from his original house, where he was neither treated badly nor treated well.
Eventually, he turned up twice at the Anne Arundel County Animal Control. The first time, he was sent back. The second time, something far more wonderful happened.
Beth and Michael Clark were in the process of donating items to the shelter when they decided to have a look at the dogs up for adoption. When they saw Rocky, they immediately fell head over heels in love with him and wanted to take him home, especially because of his sad eyes.
It was just before the Christmas of 2015 when Rocky came home for the first time. His sadness disappeared almost immediately. He spent a lot of time playing in the snow and cuddling with his new parents, and really joined in on the festivities and celebrations!
A while later, Beth and Michael found out that they were expecting a child. Rocky immediately became more protective of his Mommy. But around this time, the pup became more tired and was beginning to slow down. Still, he held on and showered his parents with love.
When Beth and Michael came back from the hospital one evening with their new daughter, Hazel, they knew they had to introduce her to Rocky. But even as Rocky met her and sniffed her curiously, his parents could see that he was fading and weakening.
A few hours later, Rocky passed away. He held on just long enough to meet his baby sister. It’s as though he knew that he had to see her just once before leaving for the Rainbow Bridge. This melancholy story may just make you shed a tear. Rest in peace, Rocky! Please share this in the wonderful pup’s memory.
