Pups who have been hurt in the past may find it difficult to socialize with others as time goes on. This labrador named Mama was living with a foster group when she and her puppy were picked up and sent to North Shore Animal League America in New York.
Mama’s puppy was set up for adoption right away, but Mama needed to develop better social skills, so she needed extra time. Mama was very shy and timid, but this sweet little pup was holding a secret. When she went for a routine medical examination with the shelter, it was revealed that she was full of bird shot from head to toe!
So that’s why this lovely pup was so afraid of being outside and had difficulty trusting others. The poor thing had been hurt. Luckily, the bird shot wasn’t affecting Mama’s health, so they didn’t need to remove it. Time passed, and after being treated with so much love and understanding, Mama has become the sweet and friendly pup she’s been too afraid to be.
She’s still afraid of the outdoors, but she’s progressed so far! If you’d like to foster adopt Mama, please contact senior manager of rescue services Cindy Szczudlo at cindys@animalleague.org. Share this so Mama can find her forever loving home!
