Vet Recommends Vaccination As Rare Human-Canine Disease Spreads Rapidly

Vaccinations are incredibly important to keep oneself healthy. There is, after all, a reason that the saying “prevention is better than cure” exists. And as it turns out, this applies to dogs as well.

Leptospirosis is a rare bacterial disease that can affect both humans and animals – and unfortunately, it is on the rise once more in certain states. The disease is often deadly at later stages, which makes it incredibly dangerous since it often goes undetected until it is too late.

Thankfully, there is a vaccine available for the disease. However, because the disease is so rare, the vaccine is usually presented as an optional one. This, as it turns out, was a fatal mistake for Copper, the Paolis’ dog.

While playing in the yard, Copper had unknowingly contracted leptospirosis. Despite keeping a close eye on him in fear that his back injury may return, the Paolis were too late in bringing their dog to their vet. Instead, they could only watch helplessly as their dog passed away shortly after.

To avoid a similar fate with you and your dog, please have your dog vaccinated if you live in an area that’s seeing an increase in leptospirosis cases. It just may save their life.
