Dog farts can be impossibly potent, and if you happen to have a particularly gassy dog, the flatulence can drive you crazy! Here’s what you need to know.
Causes For Excessive Flatulence In Dogs
Table Scraps. If you can’t resist your dog’s puppy eyes and keep feeding them human food from the table, they might get gassy. Canine digestive systems just don’t work like a human’s!
- Diet Changes. Change a dog’s food too quickly and their digestive system may struggle to keep up!
- Breed. Some dog breeds, namely those with flat noses, are more prone to flatulence than other dogs due to the fact that they take in more air.
- Fast Eating. If your dog practically inhales their food, they’re probably inhaling a bunch of air, too.
- Foods of Low Quality. Foods that use a lot of fillers are carb-heavy and not the best for your dog’s digestive system.
- Allergies. An environmental or food allergy or intolerance can cause indigestion.
Preventing Canine Flatulence
- Change Their Diet. Slowly switch your dog’s diet over to a more healthy and high-quality option. Speak to your vet for recommendations.
- Add Supplementing Ingredients. Add foods such as pumpkin to your dog’s diet to help their digestive system stay healthy. Other dog-safe foods containing activated charcoal, probiotics, and prebiotics can also help.
- Give Them More Exercise. An active dog is less likely to have bad gas than one who lazes around all day!
