Woman Drives 1,300 Miles To Reunite Lost Pup With Her Mom, But Things Don't Go As Planned

Staff at the Humane Society of Midland County, Michigan may never solve the mystery of one-year-old pit bull mix Blue. She was picked up as a stray, and a scan revealed a microchip – one that was registered to a number belonging to a woman in Florida.

Blue had been missing from her Florida home for an entire week. No one knows how she managed to get to Michigan, and we likely never will – but her Mom wanted her home.

So, the shelter sent out a call on social media for anyone willing to make the long drive with Blue back home. After countless replies, Stephanie James was given the privilege of bringing the pup home.

She took some vacation days from work, roped her brother into it, and picked Blue up from the shelter. She was immediately struck by how adorable and loving the pup was! 1,300 miles later – including a stay in a hotel, a few meals at fast food joints, several pit stops, and even a quick swim in the ocean – they arrived in South Florida.

Blue’s Mother wasn’t home, so Blue’s grandmother let them in. Blue was instantly very happy, as though she recognized the place.

An hour later, Blue’s Mom arrived. The pup was very excited to see her. Her Mom talked about how Blue stayed outdoors in a kennel in the backyard whenever the family wasn’t at home. Apparently, someone had been repeatedly taking her, so she may have broken free from them and run away – or she’d just managed to escape, being the intelligent being she is!

That’s when Blue’s Mom dropped a bombshell on them: she asked James to take Blue back to Michigan with her. She said she was busy with a full-time job and full-time studies, and couldn’t commit to her care. She believed Blue would be in good hands with James. But James already had many pets at home, so she wouldn’t be able to keep her.

James and her brother took the pup back into their car, trying not to feel too heartbroken at the pup’s confused expression. But it would be better for her in the long run. James quickly informed the shelter of what happened, and the shelter announced on social media that the pup was up for adoption. Unbeknownst to James, applications were pouring in!

By the time James and her brother arrived back at the shelter with Blue, he already had a new Dad waiting to meet him – Robert Allison, who lost his own pit bull pup half a year prior. Blue immediately loved him, and so it was settled!

Blue now lives in a loving home that gives her the love and care she deserves.
