Here’s What You Need To Keep In Mind Before Leaving Your Dog With A Sitter

Leaving our dogs in the hands of somebody else can be rather nerve-wracking! Even if it is only for a few hours, we constantly find ourselves wondering if everything is going well.

Thankfully, there are a few things we can do to make it safer for the sitter and our dogs. One of these is a leaving an informative list in the house, or with the sitter, to cover all our bases. Here is the information that would be most useful for you to provide them:

  • The time and date of when exactly you will be leaving and arriving.
  • Your cell phone number, an alternative number (of somebody living close by, such as a neighbor), and the number of a close family member.
  • Details of your house’s security code and emergency plans, should this be needed.
  • Details of your dog’s vet, emergency plan, and who to contact if your dog comes into an urgent situation.
  • Detailed schedules and routines (including eating and walking), so your sitter can stick to these and keep a sense of normality in the house.
  • Details about how much food your dog usually gets, what treats they are given (including when or why they get them), and where you usually purchase these products, in the case that your sitter needs to run out to get something extra.
  • Any allergies your dog has, reactions to certain things, and what is off bounds for your precious pooch.
  • Which visitors are or are not allowed, this is important for the sitter to know in order to keep everybody safe!
  • Your dog’s favorite toys or comfort items, this will help your sitter keep your canine companion at ease while you are away.

An informed sitter is incredibly important, and it is always a good idea to cover all your bases, should any situation arise!
