10 Surprising Dog Allergies You Probably Didn't Know (Part 2)

In Part 1, we talked about how pollen, mold, dander, and smoke, among other things, had the potential of causing an allergic reaction in dogs. We’re going to tell you a few more things that can leave your dogs scratching and chewing at their skin.

1. Food ingredients

Certain foods like beef, chicken, pork, corn, wheat or soy can cause an allergic reaction in dogs leaving them with itchy skin, chronic ear infections, stomach upset, vomiting and diarrhea.

2. Dust

Dust and dust mites live on mattresses, sofas, carpets and basically everywhere in your house. These can cause an allergic reaction in some dogs and leaving them to suffer from a condition called atopic dermatitis. IF your dog suffers from dust allergy, clean your dog’s bed at least once a week and vacuum twice a week.

3. Drugs and medicine

Much like humans, some dogs have an allergic reaction to certain medicines and drugs. If your dog has had an allergic reaction from medicine, their faces will swell, their skin will itch and they’ll experience hives.

4. Fleas

Some dogs are allergic to fleas and it’s saliva so when one bites a dog they suffer from a skin condition called atopic dermatitis.

5. Perfumes and air fresheners

Much like humans, some dogs are allergic to perfumes and certain household air conditioners.
