This awesome beagle is called Grandpa! He got his name when he was rescued from the Lake County animal shelter at the advanced age of 12.
Even after 5 years, Grandpa, the beagle is now showing signs of slowing down. He is not letting partial blindness or deafness hurt his daily habits!
But for the last few months, the beagle has been visiting United Cerebral Palsy of San Joaquin, Calaveras and Amador Counties, where he’s welcomed with peanut butter dog treats lovingly made by the center’s clients.
According to ABC10:
“In care homes, they don’t have the ability to have an animal there. Having a dog like Grandpa come in, who has a slow energy and is nice and quiet … Even for our people who have dementia, it’s nice and calming for them. It’s very therapeutic,” UCP activities director Sam Bailey explained.
Grandpa comes in and just brightens up everyone’s day with his sweet and gentle demeanor. The care home is now considering scheduling visits with local animal shelters after seeing the effects Grandpa has had on everyone.
