Here Are 3 Things You Should Know About Your Dog's Butt!

Pup Mommies and Daddies love every inch of their dogs, and for good reason! Every part of a pup is adorable, and many of them can even serve as indicators of when something’s wrong in the health department.

That’s why it’s important that you pay attention to all parts of their bodies – including their butts! So let’s find out some interesting facts about a dog’s butt, shall we?

1. It’s full of nerves!

Essentially, the entire perineal area of a pup has many nerves, so any injuries or infections hurt a whole lot. Even grooming around the area can be uncomfortable or irritating to a pup, so it should be kept to a minimum.

2. It’s for more than just poop!

Around a dog’s rectum and anus are several anal glands that are somewhat similar to those that a skunk uses to spray stink everywhere. Naturally, this means that these glands can produce quite a stench! They’re used for marking and identification, but due to their close proximity to the anus, they may suffer infection, rupture, or abscess at some point.

3. If it gets sick, it can be a sign of more serious issues.

Itching, pain, or discomfort around your pup’s butt can often be a sign of infection, allergies, or more. So make it a habit to check and examine this area when bathing your dog, and if you notice that your pup is acting strange regarding his perennial area, see a veterinarian as soon as you can!

Perennial issues can be a real pain in the butt – pun intended! – so make sure that you’re on the lookout for signs that something may be wrong. Getting to know your pup’s body is important, so like and share this with other pup parents!
