With enough preparation, choosing the best boarding facility for your pets before you travel is achievable. Here are three factors to consider beforehand:
1. Ask for recommendations
Seek referrals from people you know who have successfully boarded their pets. Or search for reputable pet accommodations that suit your budget.
Cats do not need the constant attention that dogs do and are most comfortable in their own homes. Consider hiring a sitter to care for your pets at home, if possible. If boarding them is unavoidable, select a facility that provides a separate section for cats.
2. Visit the facility
Once you have found a suitable option for your pets, make the time to visit ahead of your trip. Tour the grounds and observe the surroundings.
Is the place clean? Is there adequate sleeping space? Is exercise provided, and how often? Do the other pets there look healthy and happy?
3. Check the rules
Find out the requirements prior to boarding such as health screenings that your pets may need, as well as things to bring and do on boarding day.
If other pet services are available at the facility such as dental or grooming, consider including them in the total fee to keep your pets well while you are away.
