When you buy your dog new toys, the excitement in their eyes is adorable and enough to make any dog owner happy.
But then, slowly but surely, your dog begins to lose interest. It isn’t long before they’re ignoring the toy in favor of chewing some shoes, no matter how much you try to make them play with it. Here’s how to stop your dogs from getting bored of their toys!
Rotate The Toys
A dog’s concept of “new” isn’t focused so much on what is truly brand new. Instead, it’s about what feels new. Keep your dog’s toys hidden from them and pick certain ones to leave out for them. Switch the toys that are out every few days or every week and watch them get excited over their “new” old toys!
Make Them Interactive
Interactive toys are automatically more engaging than static ones that never change. Bounce a ball around to get their attention. Use toys for fetch or tug-of-war. Stuff it with treats or put a light dash of dog-safe peanut butter over chew toys. Buy or make puzzle toys. The possibilities are endless!
Know Their Preferences
Not all dogs like the same thing. Maybe the reason your dog is bored with the toys you buy them is because they don’t even like the toys to begin with. Take the time to find out what kinds of toys they like in terms of texture, size, noise, or use.
