5 Simple Tips To Help Your Pup Beat That Itch!

It’s not uncommon to see your pup scratch at an itch in the spring and summer months, but what happens when that itch doesn’t go away?

For pup parents who have to watch as their pup picks at itchy spots again and again, it can be distressing because it may allude to underlying problems. Seasonal itchiness, though, can be given relief through some of these ways. Try these methods at home; they may just work for you!

1. Keep it clean

After a long day of outdoor play or exercise, make sure to wipe down your pup with a damp towel. Don’t forget the paws, but do make sure to dry those feet straight away afterwards. Meanwhile, be sure to wash your fur ball’s bedding, soft toys, and blankets once a week on a hot cycle. If your house tends to be a little damp or has a number of old carpets, dehumidifiers will help keep your fur ball from getting an itch.

2. Bath time

QV Bath Oil is great for soothing flaky or dry skin. Let your fur ball soak in the bath with it every 3 days for about 10 minutes. In addition, bathe your fur ball weekly with oatmeal shampoo. Reddish skin can be treated with shampoos that contain chlorhexidine. Please always consult your vet before using anything on your pup.

3. External allergen control

Make sure that Comfortis is used every month to control and reduce fleas, and subsequently, itchiness. It’s also important to make sure that plants that cause allergies, such as wandering jew, are kept away from your pup, too! Please always consult your vet before using anything on your pup.

4. Supplements and topicals

Give your fur ball fatty acids – try for a proper ration of omega 3 and omega 6 oils. Antihistamines are also an option and are safe for daily use, although they don’t work on all pups! You can also treat your pup’s feet with topical steroid cream or spray. Please always consult your vet before using anything on your pup.

5. Talk to your vet

Send your pup for a check-up so that treatment options can be discussed and your fur ball can be checked for allergies. You may need to switch up your pup’s diet or give him medication – just do as the doctor says!
