5 Things Our Pups Do That Make No Sense To Us!

The dogs we know and love are adorable, smart, and loyal – but they can also be quite silly! There are some things that pups do that just seem to make no sense. Here are the reasons behind five common odd, funny quirks and behaviors exhibited by dogs!

1. Tail chases

The most common reason for this is due to boredom, excitement or just because they’re feeling playful! If they receive attention when chasing their tails, they might perform the action again to get more attention. Of course, there could also be medical reasons – an itch the pup can’t reach, a compulsive disorder, and even high cholesterol, which studies have linked to this behavior.

2. Head tilts

Pups may tilt their heads due to a large muzzle getting in the way of their view of their parents, or perhaps doing so allows their ear to flop outwards, allowing more sound to be heard. And, of course, if doing so gains attention, they may do it to get more attention!

3. Butt scoots

This adorable, weird behavior is actually often a cry for help that means something on your pup’s rear is irritating them or is painful, and it can even be due to a serious anal gland issue. Read more on this subject here.

4. Circling

The act of circling around before settling and lying down is a trait inherited from back when dogs were wild creatures. Back then, pups would dig a hole in the ground and circle around to flatten the earth beneath them so it would be comfortable enough to sleep in.

5. Staring

This is actually a way for pups to try and gauge your expressions so as to understand what you’re thinking and feeling. Too cute!
