Do you have to leave your dog at home for a certain amount of time? Hiring a pet sitter may be your best bet. Here are 5 tips and tricks to help keep your dog safe by helping a pet sitter.
Create An Emergency Plan
Write down a list of emergency numbers (including all your contact information) for a pet sitter, in case anything happens while you’re gone. You should also sign and write a letter of some kind that indicates you are giving permission to this pet sitter to do what is necessary to keep your dog safe if they develop medical issues.
Understand That Accidents Happen
Your dog is still going to be naughty, even when you’re gone – if not more so! As such, if something minor goes wrong, don’t flip out on the sitter. They don’t know your dog like you do, and your dog is always going to try to get into trouble!
Tell Them What They Need To Know
Does your dog always try to run the second the door is opened? Do they have a tendency to dig through the trash? Do they have certain anxieties? Tell them to your sitter so they can better care for your dog!
Insurance
Professional sitters should be backed by some form of insurance. Ask potential sitters about their insurance before hiring them,
Medical History
Give the sitter a list of your dog’s medical history as well as basic information, like height, weight, breed, and more.
