They say eyes are the windows to the soul, but can eyes help us learn more about our dog’s health? If dogs could talk, we’d probably be more prepared when it comes to their health, but since they can’t, it’s up to us to gather clues from our dog’s body language.
If you think something is wrong with your dog’s health, the first thing to do is to check their eyes. Not only can you find out more about their health, but also if they’re going through some health issues. Here are some things you can learn about your dog’s health through their eyes. Here’s Part 1, in case you missed it.
1. Squinting, Rubbing Eyes, Excessive Blinking, Shutting Them Forcibly
If your dogs are suffering from ocular pain they will squint, rub their eyes, blink excessively or shut them forcibly. If you see your dog doing this, please take them to the vet for a checkup since the cornea’s surface is home to many sensory nerve endings.
2. Third Eyelid
If there’s a visible third eyelid it clearly means that your dog’s eyes are irritated. This could mean that your dog is suffering from cherry eye and would appreciate a trip to the vet.
3. Different Pupil Sizes
If a dog has different pupil sizes, it could mean that there’s something wrong with their health. This difference could be paired with red or hazy eyes with or without discharge.
