6 Ways To Protect Your Dog From The Sun (Part 1)

As dog parents, especially those who have heavy-coated dogs, we tend to think that we probably don’t have to protect our dogs from the sun, correct? Well, we’re wrong.

It doesn’t matter what breed you have or how much hair they have, it’s wrong to underestimate the power of the sun. Dogs can experience heatstrokes, tans, and sunburns, just like humans do. Here are some ways to protect your dogs from the sun. PS. dogs that experience hair loss require special treatment so please visit the vet and get your guideline on how to protect them from the sun.

1. Shades are important

If you’re out and about with your dog more frequently, especially during summer, please remember to take them areas that have enough shade. So if you decide to play outside try and find areas that are covered or surrounded by trees and buildings to give your dog natural shade to relax in after a long day of play.

2. No shaving

Although you can take your dog for their regular grooming sessions, please remember not to shave your dog and keep as much of their natural hair as possible because this will not only block the sun but also regulate their body temperature.

3. Protective clothing

If you want to protect your dog from the harsh summer sun it’s important that you make them wear protective clothing. Find something that is breathable and comfortable for your dog to wear in the heat. This will prevent them from unnecessary exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays.
