Does your dog have a cold? Luckily, most colds can be treated at home.
Here are 7 tips home remedying a cold for your dog:
1. Food and Water
Although they lose their appetite when ill, dogs still need to eat and drink. Low-sodium broth can be added to water to make it more appetizing, and boiled chicken and rice can encourage eating. But if your dog won’t drink, you’ll have to syringe feed them with water.
2. Dryness
Make sure your dog doesn’t get wet. If they absolutely must, make them wear booties and a jacket, and dry them off thoroughly once they’re out of the moisture.
3. Aromatherapy
Use lavender, eucalyptus, or peppermint essential oils to clear out a dog’s cold by releasing their scents.
4. Warmth
Make sure you keep your dog warm while they’re ill. Use a blanket or bed heater if necessary, and keep them in bed.
5. Coconut Oil or Honey
Both of these components have properties that boost the immune system and fight bacteria and viruses. Add some to your dog’s meals to help promote healing.
6. Make Them Rest
Lethargy means your dog will likely not be moving around a lot, but really make sure to limit their overall activity.
7. Humidity
To help a dog’s lungs stay moist, use a humidifier. This can also fight off congestion.
