We are heartbroken whenever we hear stories about strays and the difficult life they endure on the street. The story of a golden retriever named Lucy is another sad stray story but with a ray of hope in the end.
Lucy showed up in somebody’s backyard one day in really bad shape, so bad that she couldn’t even eat hard dog food. The homeowner cared enough to help Lucy, so they reached out to The Asher House to rescue the dog.
Looking at Lucy, you could tell she had been bred hard and had just had a litter of puppies. It was also obvious that she had endured various abuse, judging from the scars on her head. All indications suggested that she must have been a dog at a puppy mill before becoming a stray.
When Lee Asher, the owner of The Asher House, saw Lucy, he knew the dog was traumatized by her experiences and was upset about it. Lee thought a good way to cheer Lucy up was to help her make new friends, so he introduced her to the pack of rescue dogs he had under his care, which worked.
Lucy was so excited to meet the other dogs. For the first time in a long time, she was happy.
