Online dating seems to be more or less like Russian roulette. You never know if you’re going to find your true love, or if you’re going to encounter heartbreak.
But, one thing is for sure. Studies have found that men with dogs in their profile pictures are more likely to settle down.
Maryanne Fisher, an evolutionary psychologist from Canada, was interested in determining which characteristics are common for people who are just looking for a fling, and which are common for people who want to settle down. She conducted a study that analyses the differences between short-term attraction tactics versus long-term attraction tactics. And the results were surprising. According to her research, men who post pictures with their dogs on dating sites are more likely to be looking for commitment.
She looked at 750 profiles of both men and women. She asked everyone if they were looking for something serious or not. Out of the men who said they wanted a long-term relationship, 80% of them had a dog in their photos. Out of the ones who wanted a fling, just 50% had dogs in their photos. Fisher thinks that dogs are subconsciously used by men to signal they can be trusted. Whereas, the men who just want a fling are more likely to display their body or their wealth.
Dogs are a commitment, both financially and emotionally, so it is possible that men want to convey that they are reliable and responsible when they include a dog in their dating profile. Some might even include them as a way to increase their chances of finding a mate.
So, if you are looking for something serious, definitely swipe right on the men who are cuddling their dogs in their profile photos.
