Adopt a dog, or buy one? Adopt and go tough the struggle of socialization and training of a dog with already developed habits and behaviors, or buy a puppy from a breeder and have it all done your way?
This doubt will always remain a controversial topic; however, one study goes in favor of adoption for a good cause: A recent study found out a terrifying fact that the online purchased dogs often get sick and die even before their first birthday.
This research was conducted by the Kennel Club in the UK and found out the disturbing fact that at least 18 percent of the 240,000 puppies bought online each year, raised by breeding facilities and shipped directly to the new parents, soon come down with a debilitating disease that will eventually take their lives.
“The internet is making it easier than ever before to buy things instantly, and this is having an alarming impact on the way people expect to buy a puppy,” said Kennel Club secretary Caroline Kisko. The research proved also that for the majority of people it takes less than a few hours to research online and purchase a puppy. The study revealed shocking details on human cruelty in this way of “shopping for a fur baby” being treated as things rather than an alive creature with a heart and soul.
As a good start to prevent this inhuman practice, Lucy’s Law was implemented in order to ban third parties to sell puppies while imposing the obligation on the buyer to meet with either the breeder or animal rescue before they can buy a pet.
