Khaleesi the dachshund was doing her usual hunting training when she went too quickly after a rabbit and became stuck in a storm pipe. But even more terrifyingly, the retaining wall wasn’t stable and looked like it may collapse. Her transmitter collar made her completely unable to get free.
Kristie Ann Ramos and her husband, Emilio, were terrified for her. Rescue Company 1 and Ladder Company 1 of the Secaucus Fire Department soon arrived on the scene, but it was night by then and the terrain was very rough. They had to drill down a six-inch pipe to get to where she was, four feet into it.
Khaleesi wound up stuck in that pipe for 24 hours in a vertical position, because she had to be left overnight. Thankfully, with the hard work of the rescue company, Jaws of Life, and a camera, they were able to dig their way to Khaleesi and break her free. Her parents are so glad to have her safe – and she’s definitely happy to be out of there, too!
