For the first few weeks of a pup’s life, they have to be kept indoors and near their pup mom. This is for safety’s sake – for starters, a newborn pup is very bad at regulating their body temperature.
So mom and the birthing pen – and any other heating elements added by the breeder to help the mama pup – are the puppies’ only source of warmth and temperature regulation. And this is only just one thing off the list.
So when a pup is finally allowed to go outside into the garden, it really is a first-time experience for them! The world is fresh, new and exciting, and they just have to try and smell and taste all of it!
This definitely was the case for Apollo the German Shepherd puppy – judging from his size it is clear he is an incredibly young pup. This may actually be his first time out! And unfortunately for his parents, he has taken to the muddy water with great aplomb!
