After A K9 German Shepherd Dies, Little Girl Donates Allowance To Buy Ballistic Vests For Police Pups!

On January 9, 2016 Officer Ryan Davis of the Canton Police Department witnessed the fatal shooting of his partner and family pet, Jethro the German shepherd. You may recall the story from when we first covered it. Robbery suspect, Kelontre Barefield is facing up to 57 years in prison if convicted of all charges in the shooting.

Sadly, the heroic German shepherd passed away from his injuries the following day. The loss of Jethro has been excruciating for Officer Davis, who has said that he would trade places with the dog who saved his life. Any true dog lover knows how difficult it can be to say goodbye to a furry friend.

As part of his grieving process, Officer Davis has been reading the more than 2,000 letters of condolence he has received since Jethro’s death. He was especially touched by a note from an 11-year-old girl identified only as Allison.

” sorry about Jethro,” she wrote in a letter to the department. “So here is my allowance for the bullet proof vests. God bless you and the dogs.” – Source. Doesn’t that just melt your heart?

Officer Davis tracked her and her mom down on social media and plans to thank them in person soon. He was so touched by her gesture and it goes to show you, you are never too young to make a difference.
