After Falling In Love With This Rescue Pup, Man Drives 2,800 Miles To Bring Him Home!

Mario Rodriguez grew up with pit bulls and has always had a special love for them. Naturally, this meant that as soon as his wife mentioned one such pup on the kill list of a shelter, Rodriguez knew he wanted to adopt him.

The pup in question was Hickory, a 2-year-old pup with a big, loving smile. The moment Rodriguez saw his picture, he knew the pup just wanted to be loved. There was just one problem: Hickory was located in the Animal Care Centers of NYC and Rodriguez was a whopping 2,800 miles away in California due to his work as a truck driver.

So what did Rodriguez do? Simple. He dropped everything. He was on a mission to rescue Hickory. He spoke to his employer and they were understanding, scheduling a delivery route that would bring him to New York as soon as possible. He called the shelter to inform them and took off. Every day, he called the shelter to ensure Hickory was still there – so much that they memorized his number!

It took six days for Rodriguez to reach the shelter. The moment he met Hickory, the pup began to jump and wag his tail. He practically leaped onto him and showered him with kisses. As love would have it, it was love at first sight – and instant connection Rodriguez had never experienced with any other dog!

After getting paperwork done, Rodriguez got Hickory into his truck and they began to long drive home to Georgia. Hickory soon met his new fellow pit bull siblings – named Angel and Cooper – and after he overcame his initial shyness, he spent a lot of time playing with his family!

It wasn’t long before the family realized that Rodriguez was Hickory’s favourite person and that he would hate to see his Dad leave home for work so often. As such, Rodriguez has decided to bring Hickory with him on all of his trips!

Now, Hickory has had countless new experiences out on the road, visiting farms and parks and meeting all sorts of new animals. He’s seen awesome sights and sounds, he has his own dog bed, and he and his Dad are making amazing memories together.

What more could they ask for?
