In Chicago’s South Loop pet store, an outbreak of dog flu has been reported and confirmed. In a statement provided by PetSmart, multiple cases of respiratory illness and one confirmed case of dog flu has been confirmed. They were quoted saying, “We have seen multiple cases of canine respiratory illness in dogs in our South Loop PetsHotel location. At this point, we have one confirmed case of Canine Influenza. The health and well-being of pets is our top priority, and we are going to do everything we can to help contain the spread of this virus and ensure the pets in our PetsHotels receive the best care possible.”

Staff at the contaminated store have taken necessary measures to contact all pet owners and are clearing their doggie daycare so as to scrub everything down. This process will take three days and pet owners are commending the action that PetSmart has taken to prevent other dogs from dog flu. According to PetSmart, dogs who have shown symptoms are provided with regular checkups from a vet. If your pet shows any sign of cough, drop in energy or low fever, please call the vet for necessary medication.
