Animal Activists Want Illegal Dog Breeders To Be Slapped With Fines

Animal welfare activists are fighting tooth and nail to keep pup population under control and introduce fines for illegal dog breeders.

Volunteers involved in welfare organizations are trying to curb illegal dog breeding. Illegal breeders are already forbidden by municipal bylaws, however the activists are trying their best to enforce stricter fines upon offenders. Pet breeders require municipality approval in order to keep their businesses going.

There’s a fine applicable if that approval isn’t there, but the way of getting to that fine is long. Welfare organization activists say that there’s warnings that come before the fines. And a mother can have several litters before the fine is ever issued. Outreach campaigns are being run to educate pet owners on the risks and costs of illegal breeding.

Illegal breeders are a problem all over the world. “Puppy” season and “kitten” season are both very real times of the year, when millions of young pets go into shelters or, even worse, are dropped off on the street, where they have no chance of survival.

The problem mainly lies with breeders who are breeding animals for sale, not people who can’t afford to sterilize their pets. In fact, all the money collected from fines can be enough to help those in a less favorable financial position sterilize their beloved pets!

All pet owners should work together to stop this problem and prevent more and more homeless animals on our streets. Make sure to share this article to raise awareness of this important issue. And remember – adopt, don’t shop!
