Recently a 10 month old German shepherd mix called Ginger had a bone stuck on her lower jaw. Ginger’s person went to the emergency veterinary hospital after getting help from her vet and some firefighters.

The firefighters took Ginger to the Willowdale Animal Hospital where her doctor called Dr. Jonathan Bloom and the firefighters cut the two sides of the bone with a Dremel tool to get it out. Thankfully, Ginger is doing fine now 🙂

See What Dr. Jonathan Bloom Has To Say About Marrow Bones

According to Dr. Bloom, marrow bones get stuck to the dog’s teeth, which in turn swell the lips. The swelling of the lip then locks the bone around the jaw. To remove the bone, doctors use anesthesia on the dog and try to wiggle it out, but if that doesn’t work, they have to saw it off.

Finally Dr. Bloom said that dog owners should be very careful about the bones they feed to their fur kids because not only can these bones break their teeth, it can also cause serious stomach issues if they (bones) split inside after they’re eaten.
