Big Dog Ranch Rescue Set To Open No-Cage Shelter In Alabama

Seeing many dogs locked up in shelters can be heartbreaking. Not only are they there because nobody wants them yet, but they are also stuck in cages until someone notices them.

Most local shelters care about getting the dogs in their care rehomed. However, many do not have enough resources to make their lives very comfortable while waiting for the adoption to happen.

A new no-kill shelter opening up on a 100-acre land in Alabama is changing the narrative with its cage-free approach. The shelter, Big Dog Ranch Rescue, currently operates in Florida and has saved more than 50,000 dogs.

The rescue took to their Facebook page to announce that they would expand their services to Alabama to help combat overcrowding issues. "Record numbers of dogs are being brought to shelters resulting in overcrowding and a record euthanasia rate for these former family pets.

Higher costs for everything from fuel to food are prompting owners to surrender their dogs," the rescue explained on Facebook. The Big Dog Ranch Rescue states that the new Alabama shelter will save at least 5,000 dogs annually.

It will act as a transitional spot where dogs coming and going from shelters across the northeast can get medical attention, among other care. The shelter is currently being renovated and will open sometime in September.
