Not everyone is suitable to be a dog parent. Stevie’s ex-parents certainly weren’t. He was rescued from a backyard in South Carolina where he had been chained up his entire life.
The Lancaster County SPCA was responsible for picking him up, but he was transferred to Diamonds in the Ruff in New York for care.
Stevie had a ton of issues when he arrived at the rescue. He was blind, but he was also infested with fleas and worms. He had missing fur in some areas and an old corn cob was lodged in his intestines. The shelter ensured he got the surgery to get it removed, and began behavioral therapy immediately.
On his way to his foster home, he would growl and bark between falling asleep every now and then. It was clear he was scared and he would not get out of the crate when he arrived at his foster home. Eventually, he began to come out of his shell once his physical and emotional wounds started healing. He was getting used to being in a loving family.
His family noticed how excited he was about being in his bed. It seemed that this had also been his first time being in an actual bed. He was surprised by how soft it was and started jumping for joy. Even though he’s had his bed for a while now, he becomes excited whenever he feels one.
Everyone who has come across Stevie from the moment he was rescued to this day is surprised and happy at how far he’s come. Despite being blind, he has learned to make his way around the family home and enjoys going for walks and playing with his toys. He also loves giving kisses to show his thanks.
Stevie is up for adoption and a local family with no pets and extra time on their hands would be the perfect fit. He has been through a lot and deserves a forever family that will give him the world!
