There is no better feeling than having the company of your pup as you lie on the couch, binge-watching television over the weekend. Perhaps your pup has the tendency to be lazy, hence he relishes those moments.
However, for the good of his physical and mental health, it’s best to propel your BFF out of his comfort zone and schedule some exercises, even if at first he is reluctant to participate. Dr. Albert Ahn, a veterinarian adviser at Myos Pet has some useful tips to offer on how to get your dog up and moving.
Set a Good Example
According to Dr. Ahn, your dog loves to be by your side; therefore if you increase your activity, he will be right there by your side, also getting a work-out.
How to Get Started
Overdoing things on the first day is a sure way to discourage your pup. Dr. Ahn has this to say regarding this:
“If you overdo it on day one, your dog may not be as motivated or interested the next time you approach him to go for a long walk,’’
Hence, it’s best to start with the usual walk to pee, then take it a little further, perhaps down a block.
Increase the Activity
On the following days, walk a little further, and make the walks fun by allowing the pup to sniff things and explore. Eventually, you may even be able to go on a hike together. In the long run, you will see that employing a little TLC achieves amazing results.
