Surely you remember the horrific 9/11 attacks. Well, this golden retriever called Bretagne was a member of the Texas Task Force 1 and worked side by side with her handler Denise Corliss on a rescue mission.
In September 2001, Bretagne and her handler were sent on a 2 week rescue mission following the terrorist attacks that occurred on the World Trade Center. The rescue mission soon became a recovery mission as Bretagne left her handler to comfort weary firefighters resting on the ground.
That was 14 years ago, and this year Bretagne, the last living search and rescue dog of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, celebrated her 16th birthday! To honor her commitment, courage and bravery, Bretagne received a special surprise!
Here’s How Bretagne Celebrated Her 16th Birthday!
She and her handler Corliss spent the day in New York where they played in the fountain, saw Times Square and even got the “Bone to the Dog Park” – a canine version of the “Key to the City” from the Friends of the Hudson River Park.
See the entire video below and you’ll see how it all started out, the balloons, decorations and a yummy cake too! Bretagne, you are an awesome, amazing, inspiring and a beautiful being! Thank you for your service to our country!
