You’ve just brought home a new dog but now comes one of the most important decisions you will ever make- where to find a vet that will have the best interests of your beloved baby at heart.
Just as we agonize over finding the perfect doctor for ourselves to meet all our needs, so we should do the same when it comes to the well-being of our pets. Vets abound, but not all vets are the same. Some are practicing for financial reward but there are equally as many to be found that have a genuine love for animals and practice their profession as a calling.
The absolute best way to find a reliable vet is to speak to fellow dog-lovers, especially the ones that are as crazy about their canine companions as you are because they are most unlikely to settle for mediocrity. If you are lucky enough to be spoilt for choice and have a few vets in your area, take a drive and go and visit the practices.
- Are the staff friendly or do they seem impatient?
- Do consultations seem to be hurried?
- Does the resident veterinarian inspire confidence?
Ask yourself these important questions- they may save you a lot of pain and suffering later on.
Don’t be distracted by the presence of other animals that may have been operated on, or those awaiting procedures, as they will definitely be discomfited purely because they are in a strange environment. If the staff display concern this is a good sign. You will soon be able to sense the ‘vibe’ and find the right fit for you and your dewy-eyed dog.
