Senior dogs go through a lot, especially when they end up in shelters. Most times, nobody wants to adopt them, so they end up living out the last days of their lives in seclusion. One senior dog, Lloyd, was on this path before things turned around for him.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Niagara took Lloyd, a 12-year-old pitbull, in after police found him on the streets. Lloyd was suffering end-stage kidney failure and also had a tumor thought to be cancerous.
As a senior dog with aliments, Lloyd was living on borrowed time. However, according to the shelter's executive director, Amy Lewis, he loved life, people, and lived harmoniously with other pets at the shelter.
To help Lloyd enjoy his last days, the staff at the shelter created a personalized bucket list for him. Surprisingly, community members decided to pitch in by taking Lloyd from the shelter and giving him a chance to enjoy some of life's little pleasures.
Some items on Lloyd's bucket list that have been fulfilled in the past two weeks include hanging out with penguins at the aquarium in Nigeria, visiting local parks, beaches, and pools, and eating tacos. The Lockport Fire Department even made Lloyd an honorary firefighter.
The love the community has shown Lloyd is quite heartwarming. We're glad he is getting everything he deserves.
