It was a normal night in Chatsworth, California. Kerri and Larry Ruiz had let Chico, their Chihuahua in the backyard to go potty. Everything seemed normal until they heard Chico shriek in pain.
Confused and scared, Larry ran to the dog’s aid. When he got outside, he saw that a coyote had jumped the fence.
The coyote was fighting the small dog, biting and hurting Chico. Larry screamed for Kerri, who ran outside and took in the situation.
She understood that she needed to do something, so she went inside, grabbed an air horn, and scared the coyote away with the noise it made. Because of the location they were in, the couple held a lot of air horns to use in these types of situations. With her bravery and sharpness, Kerri managed to save her baby’s life, but unfortunately, Chico had a broken rib as a result of the altercation.
He had to be taken to a veterinarian immediately, but he was eventually patched up. After the medical intervention, he had to spend a few weeks recovering. Fortunately, he is now all healed and back to his happy self.
This whole awful incident was recorded on a home surveillance camera the couple has in the backyard. In that video, it is clear that if Larry had been even a minute late, the coyote would have dragged Chico out of the yard and he would have probably been killed. Because of this incident, Kerri and Larry vowed to never leave Chico out of their sight again when he’s out in the yard.
