Dad Spots Heartbroken Pup Visiting The Grave Of His Best Friend - Chippy, The Rat

We can all learn important lessons from animals. Take Barlow for example. A few years ago, Barlow was just another homeless dog at an animal shelter.

He was even on the list to be euthanized! Happily, the McKenzie family found him at adopted him! Barlow had only been a member of the McKenzie family for a few months when the family adopted another animal. This time, it was a rat. One of the teachers at the younger McKenzie’s school had adopted a rat – who turned out to be pregnant!

So, the McKenzie’s took not just one – but three of the boys from the litter! They named their new friends, Mud Truck, Dewey, and Chippy. Chippy was special, he was hairless. Barlow was introduced to his new siblings, and soon he and Chippy were BFFs. Liza, the mom of this happy family, says that Chippy liked to nibble on Barlow’s paws, and root around in his ears!

Barlow soaked up the attention! The lifespan of a rat is just two years. Dewey passed first, then Mud Truck. Chippy was the last rat to pass on. Before he passed, Barlow seemed to know the end was near and would snuggle with him and be gentle. Chippy was buried in the backyard next to his brothers.

They put a large gravestone to mark the grace and everyday, Barlow would head outside to visit his friend. Such a sad, but sweet story. Barlow and Chippy were best friends despite all their differences. Share away, people…
